The positive space of the logo is the letter “B”, representing “Biblioteca”. The negative space is the letter “P”, representing “pública”.

A book can best represent a library, and the logo is the side view of two books on top of one another. The serifs in the serified letter “B” make up the front and back covers of the two books besides forming part of the letter.
