Reflection of the sun

Johanna Samuelsson is a textile designer based in Sweden where she is studying textile design with a specialization in weaving; second year of master, at Swedish School of Textiles. 

Reflection of the Sun is her BFA degree work in 2014.By working with the techniques woven shibori and foil print, the interaction between patterned surfaces and light is explored.The work is a meeting between construction of textiles and treatment of surface, between industrial computerized jacquard weaving and printing by hand, between modern technology and shibori.

By working with the techniques woven shibori and foil print, the interaction between patterned surfaces and light is explored. The work is a meeting between modern technology and tradition, between computerized jacquard weaving and printing by hand, between construction of textiles and treatment of surface. Additional pattern threads that are woven with shrink yarn creates the patterned structures; when the fabric is exposed to heat, the fabric molds itself, creating a resist that is then printed with foil.
